IDSA Leadership Institute has a great leadership course called "Community of Leaders" for faculty

One inherent challenge for recruiting diversity in PIDS leadership is a lack of diversity in PIDS faculty, which reflects a relative lack of diversity in pediatrics generally. Thoughts from the panelists on how to address that fundamental issue?I also think we need to be thoughtful about what leadership looks like. Leadership training that includes a skills assessment is critical - sometimes leadership looks like interacting with media well , like Boots said, sometimes it’s committee leadership or institution leadership. One size doesn’t fit all in this way I think

You all talk about academic centers and always leave out physicians working in rural communities. It happened to me when I was working in a rural community and applied to committees several times and never selected. I have reached out to see if creation of a support network for this also "minority community " within pids.

I am sorry , I think I wrote my e mail address on chat box mistakenly. Sorry for the confusion.

I need to review the info but my memory was that both black/aa and Hispanic individuals represented <10% of pediatric applicants.I know for me if loan repayment hadn’t been on the table, as a first in family to go to college, I’m not sure my career would have looked the same.

What advice do you have for pediatric ID fellows hoping to pursue clinical research related to investigating the effects of social determinants of health and provider biases and how to initiate these research projects in fellowship when projects like these would be new for the division?
